# Pop-up

The **Pop-up** section lists the windows that open on top of your site: newsletter signup, welcome code, announcement of an ongoing promotion or a closing notice during holidays. This is where you create them, set when they appear and put them online.

You find it in the **[Website](https://docs.vivlab.com/en/sections/website.md)** area of the menu, under **Contacts**. Come here when you launch a promotion, when you want to grow your contact list, or to check that an old pop-up is no longer active.

## The list

The table shows your pop-ups with a preview thumbnail, then the columns **Name**, **Trigger**, **Status** and **Last modified**. Each row carries two indicators: **Published** or **Unpublished** depending on whether a version is live, and **Active** or **Inactive** depending on whether the pop-up may be shown.

Badges appear beside the name when the pop-up is limited to a device (**Desktop only**, **Mobile only**) or to a specific scope (**Storefront page**, **Online shop**, **Blog**).

The **Search for a pop-up** field filters by name. The **All** / **Active** / **Inactive** tabs and the **Publication**, **Trigger** and **Devices** filters refine the table. Hover the thumbnail to enlarge the preview, then click the row to open the pop-up in the editor.

The **⋯** menu at the end of the row offers **Edit**, **Duplicate** and **Delete**; deletion is permanent, immediately removes the pop-up from your site and asks you to type "Delete permanently" to confirm.

**Duplicate** copies the content and every display setting into a new **inactive** pop-up, suffixed "(copy)": handy for reusing the same setup for two offers.

## Create a pop-up

The **Create a pop-up** button opens the creation screen, which offers two starting points:

- **Describe it to the AI**: say what the pop-up should achieve (collect emails, push an offer, announce news). The AI writes and designs it with your [theme](https://docs.vivlab.com/en/sections/themes-brands.md) colors and fonts, then you ask for adjustments directly in the chat. You can attach a photo or a mockup to guide the style, and switch the preview between desktop and mobile. Allow a minute or two for generation, with the tab open.
- **Start from a template**: a gallery of designer-made pop-ups, grouped by use (newsletter, offers and promo codes, welcome, exit intent, announcements, events). **Use this template** opens the selected design in the editor; **Adapt to my style** first asks the AI to rewrite it for your brand and your business.

A **Save the pop-ups** dialog concludes the generation: tick the ones you keep, they are created and can then be edited in the editor.

To start from scratch, **Create a blank pop-up** only asks for an internal name and opens the editor on an empty window to compose block by block.

::: info First pop-up
Until you create your first one, the section shows a presentation screen explaining what a pop-up is for — collecting emails, highlighting an offer, triggering at the right moment and targeting the right pages — with the same **Create my first pop-up** entry point.

## Set the display and publish

Everything that decides **when** and **where** a pop-up appears is set in the editor, in the **[Pop-up](https://docs.vivlab.com/en/editor/menu/popup.md)** panel: the targeted pages, the trigger (after a delay, while reading the page, on exit, on click), the frequency, the devices and whether it is enabled.

<DocsScreenshot name="popups-triggers" alt="Choose the trigger in the editor’s Pop-up panel." caption="Choose the trigger in the editor’s Pop-up panel." :width="341" :height="369" />

Like a page, a pop-up is only visible to your visitors once **published**: the **Publish the pop-up** button puts the content and its display settings online. To stop a pop-up without deleting its published version, disable it in the editor and publish that change; it remains saved with the **Inactive** status.

::: tip Don't stack windows
If several pop-ups are eligible on the same page, they don't overlap: the first triggered one shows, and the next ones wait for it to close. To avoid showing several windows to the same visitor in succession, use distinct targets and the **Once per session** frequency.
:::

::: warning The offer countdown
A promotional pop-up keeps its content until you change it: nothing disables it on its own when the promotion ends. If the offer has a deadline, add a [countdown](https://docs.vivlab.com/en/editor/menu/countdown.md) to it — it shows an end message past the date — and remember to disable the pop-up when the promotion ends.
