Activity history

Every operation at the register leaves a line in this log: a sale, a return, a receipt print, an email, a closure, an archive or a settings change. You can see who did what, when and on which document, for example to check whether a receipt has already been printed or who added a staff member.

What do you want to do?

Understand what the history contains

The history is a chained and signed log: each line carries a hash (a string calculated from its content) and includes the hash of the previous line. Deleting, changing or inserting a line would break this chain, which the integrity verification would detect. Nobody can therefore change or delete a line, not even a manager.

Operations are recorded when they are performed. For a print or an email, the line is written before the print or the email itself: it proves the request was made, not that the printer actually printed.

View the activity of one register or all registers

  1. In the Management menu, open Activity history. The most recent operations come first.
  2. Choose an Event type: All events, Register activity (sales, returns, prints, closures, archives, held tickets and quotes) or Configuration (registers, staff, business details, preferences and security keys).
  3. Choose This register for the register used on this device only, or All registers. With Configuration, this choice disappears: configuration changes for every register are always shown.

Until the register has recorded any operation, the screen shows Follow everything that happens at the register, with a New sale button and an All registers button.

Find the operations on a document

The search covers the ID of the document concerned (a receipt, a closure, an archive) and the event's note, for example the name of a staff member or a register.

  1. In Activity history, choose All registers if the document comes from another register.
  2. Type the receipt number or closure ID in Search an event or document.
  3. Read the matching lines: for a receipt, you see when it was issued, each of its prints and emails, and any returns.

For a receipt or a closure, the ID in the Document column is a link: tap it to open the receipt in Receipts or the closure in Reports.

Read a line of the history

Each line shows:

The activity history with its filters and two events: a deleted draft and an issued receipt.The activity history with its filters and two events: a deleted draft and an issued receipt.
  • the Event, with the register concerned underneath, or Merchant account for an operation that concerns the whole account, and a note (for example a register's new name);
  • the Date and time of the operation;
  • the Operator, that is the staff member who had unlocked the register, or Automatic for an operation performed without an operator;
  • the Document concerned: receipt number, closure, archive or staff member ID;
  • the Sequence, the line's order number in its register's log. The numbers follow on without gaps.

On a phone, this information is grouped under the event name.
