VAT rates
The VAT rates section lets you configure the VAT applied by default to your products. Come here whenever your tax status changes (becoming VAT-registered, switching regimes), when the prevailing rate changes, or when your accountant asks you to adjust the VAT shown on invoices and at checkout.

Default VAT rate
This setting defines the inclusive VAT rate automatically applied to each of your products, except for an exception entered individually on a product page.
Enter the value in the Default VAT rate field (for example 5.5 for 5.5%, 20 for 20%). The rate is inclusive: it's already included in the price including tax that you display, and only serves to calculate the share of VAT reported on your invoices and reports.
If you're not VAT-registered, leave the field empty. To apply a different rate to a specific product (for example 5.5% on a book and 20% on an accessory), use the Set a VAT rate option in the Enrich the product page section of the relevant product.
VAT rate reference (France)
As a quick reminder, the main rates applicable in France are:
- 20% — standard rate for most goods and services (clothing, accessories, furniture, services…).
- 10% — intermediate rate (restaurants, passenger transport, home improvement work…).
- 5.5% — reduced rate (basic foodstuffs, books, subscriptions to live performances…).
- 2.1% — special rate (press, reimbursed medicines…).
- 0% — sole traders and small businesses below the VAT franchise threshold, or exempt operations.
Check the rate applicable to your activity with your accountant or on impots.gouv.fr: rules change and some product categories have their own particularities.
